Where can I purchase my lacrosse gear?
As a beginner, our local Dick’s Sporting Goods stocks a few items. The websites below offer a large variety of brands and often have sales or promo codes.
https://www.lacrossemonkey.com/
https://www.lacrosseunlimited.com/
https://www.sportstop.com/ – if your player is just starting, or you’re merely looking for a good deal, this is family-owned, lacrosse-specific business with a “buy and try” option that allows you to purchase an item, use it, and return it within 15 days for credit toward a different item.
There is a lacrosse specialty store in Birmingham called Lax Unleashed. It is located at 510 Cahaba Park Cir, Birmingham, AL 35242. You can find them online on Instagram @lax_unleased16.

Lax is just plain fun.
Fast, fun, friendships – these are recurring reasons our players have that keep them returning to the Auburn Youth Lacrosse Club. Called the ‘fastest game on two feet’ while also being the fastest growing youth sport in America, ‘fast’ is a spot-on descriptor. Auburn Youth Lacrosse prides itself on not only cultivating strong lacrosse players, but on creating young leaders, committed teammates, and excited families.
Fall ball has ignited the lax fire in some new athletes while adding fuel to our returning athletes. Our teams have been working hard to prepare for tournaments this fall. We have AYLC teams participating in the Southern Edge Witches Brew 7v7 at the end of the month while some teams take to the beach in November for the Surf-N-Turf 7v7 in Ft. Walton.
“It’s fast! And different than any other sport I’ve played.” – Sam, U12 Boys
“I love the friends I’ve made on the lacrosse team. And I glove the cute helmets we get to wear!” – Brynlee, U12 Girls
“I love you don’t have to be really tall or big to play lacrosse. Anyone who works hard enough has a chance to be good at this sport.” – Logan, High School Boys

Ben Hunt, Auburn High Varsity Boy’s Lacrosse Head Coach Honored by USA Lacrosse
|
USA Lacrosse, the governing body of lacrosse in the United States, has named Auburn’s Ben Hunt as the recipient of the 2022 Gerald J. Carroll, Jr. Exemplary Coaching Award.
Hunt has served as the Auburn lacrosse varsity boy’s head coach on a voluntary basis since the founding of the program in 2010 and was also named the 2021 Coach of the Year in the state of Alabama. The Gerald J. Carroll Award annually recognizes one high school boys’ coach nationwide. The award acknowledges the success of a coach not only in victories, but in the care and guidance he gives to the development of young men who play the game. Hunt was nominated by the Auburn Youth Lacrosse Club, the organizing body of lacrosse in Lee County, and the nomination was supported by recommendations by players and parents. Hunt played the Attack position and was a team captain at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer and is the only player in the history of the program to be a four-time All-America selection. Hunt resides in Auburn and is an engineer. Read more about this prestigious award at USA Lacrosse. Remembering Gordon Corsetti
Remembering Gordon Corsetti
For many of us at AYLC the name Corsetti rings a bell. Lou Corsetti might come to mind first, being instrumental in bringing the game to Georgia and serving as the Regional Director for the Southeast with USA Lacrosse. Of importance today is another name; that of Gordon Corsetti.
On Friday, Dec. 2, Gordon Corsetti lost his life to suicide at the age of 34. As an accomplished member of our lacrosse community, “There are not enough words to describe what Gordon has meant to this association, this game…” as aptly stated by the Georgia Lacrosse Officials Association. Gordon Corsetti played lacrosse for 10 years before trading his stick for stripes and serving as an official at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels, and helping to build an e-learning platform for officials.
Donations the Gordon Corsetti Mental Agility Fund may be made to honor and remember Gordon Corsetti. Proceeds go toward suicide prevention and mental illness research.
Thankful – 2022 Fall Ball Recap
Thankful for our Auburn Lax Community – Fall Ball Recap
Fall 2022 has been a thrilling season for AYLC. Fall lacrosse is a time for learning, to meet new teammates, and to grow your skills for a sport we all love. Accomplishments for this fall season include fielding separate teams for U8 and U10 boys, adding a new U10 team for our girls, record participation numbers, and navigating new and growing coaching staff.
GIRLS
Our entire girls program attended the 2022 Witches Brew Tournament by Southern Edge Lacrosse in Emerson, GA. This was a fast-paced 7v7 tournament. These girls participated in fast and furious competition with games only lasting 22 minutes while also dressing for the season. For many, this was their very first experience playing lacrosse. These girls have grit, many were asked to play a new position or step up and fill a need. Congratulations to our U14 White won the Middle School 7/8 division Championship and to Aubrey Haney for winning MVP of the championship game.
Anasofia, AKA “Mini,” from our U12 girls says “I love lacrosse because it is played as a team. The excitement of the game is the best part. Our team is a family and that’s what makes us special. My favorite moment of fall is seeing my teammates and myself succeed at trying new things like bounce shots or roll dodges.”
Our U12 and U14 girls wrapped up their fall season at the Surf-N-Turf Tournament in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. U12 girls divided into Blue and White and played a wonderful weekend of lacrosse. They had to battle against each other in the U12 Division Championship, with U12 White coming away with the win. This is the second consecutive year for U12 white to win their division! U14 girls faced stiff competition, including each other. On day one during pool play, U14 White was victorious. Seeded against each other in bracket play, U14 Blue fought hard for the win and found success. U14 Blue moved on to the championship game. They battled a tough team out of Atlanta. They rose to come from behind and ended regulation play with a tie at 12. Unfortunately, U14 Blue fell in sudden death. We are so incredibly proud of these girls for their resilience and fortitude. AYLC Girls has a bright future ahead.
BOYS
This fall the boys had four separate teams from U8-U14. Many new and returning faces to the field. Colin B. from our U8 team says “I love Auburn Lacrosse because I like my team and it’s really fun.” After spending weeks to prepare, our boys program brought teams down to Ft. Walton Beach for the second year to compete in the Surf-N-Turf. Our U12 boys got the weekend started with early games against tough and competitive Florida teams. This very young U12 team was forged in battle playing some extremely physical games. Coach Scott says “They fought through adversity, injuries, and emotions to become brothers-in-arms as 16 young men arrived in Florida but came home to Auburn as a team.” Congratulations to U12 boys on a 2nd place finish.
Our U8 and U10 boys combined to create two U10 teams and play in a round-robin style single day of competition. U10 White came away with the win on their first game together. They battled a very aggressive team in their next two matches. New and returning kids contributed on the field in scoring goals and causing turnovers. They learned how to work together. U10 Blue had a rough start to the day falling in their first game. But they battled back to make it to the semi-finals. Coach Sarah says “Only six boys who came to Florida had previous lacrosse experience, a lot of these kids were playing against those twice their size. They fought hard and showed grit. I’m super proud of my boys and pumped for spring.” U10 Blue lost their semi-final game by only one point.
U14 Boys had bumpy start at the Surf-N-Turf 7v7 tournament, but they rallied back on day two. Many of these boys are new to the U14 level and some are new to lacrosse. Andy S. from U14 says “I’ve made most of my friends through lacrosse. Many of us met when we were little and the team is like family.” The team had back-to-back wins in bracket play to secure their Silver Championship. Congratulations!
None of this would be possible without the time, talents, and effort of our wonderful coaching staff. We are grateful for our dedicated parents who help fill needs on a weekly basis so that we can focus on our athletes and on the game of lacrosse. We are also thankful for the support of the AYLC Board and long-time members who seek to help us grow the game and our Auburn Lax Community. Tallie B. from U12 Girls says it best, “When you play lacrosse you feel unstoppable. One of my favorite things about Auburn Lacrosse is friendship. You have these amazing people on your team who turn into amazing family. All the girls I play with are now my sisters and my best friends.”
Happy Thanksgiving Lax Fam!

2022 Fall Lacrosse Clinics Attract a Large Crowd
This past Saturday, Auburn Youth Lacrosse Club hosted their annual free fall lacrosse clinics at Pick Elementary. With over 125 athletes in attendance, the clinics were a rousing success. The girls started the morning with sunshine and fun. Players and participants enganged in favorite drills such as “hungry-hungry hippo,” had a fastest-shot contest, and scrimmaged within their age levels.
This annual event serves as a great kick-off for our lacrosse year. Returning players look forward to reconnecting with friends and making new ones! The boys had the field in the afternoon. Joy and excitement could be found on all faces, new and old. They started with a dynamic warm-up and some introductory drills. Unfortunately the weather did not hold and the clinic was cut short.
All-in-all, we meet over 70 new faces this weekend. Thank you to everyone who came out to give lacrosse a try! We could not pull-off successful events like this one without the efforts of our many volunteers. A shout out to our AHS Varsity Girls who volunteered with both clinics. Thank you to Officer Rob Rich for providing our fastest shot competition. And a sweet thank you to Kona Ice for providing a treat after the hard work was finished.

My goal is to empower young female athletes, not only in athletics, but in their future life goals. I want our girls to understand and believe the are capable of achieving any goals they set.
Failure only exists when you quit, and quitting is never an option. Refocus your objective if necessary, but choose to persevere. Choose to be awesome.”
