Boys

Since our inaugural spring season of 2011, the AYLC boys lacrosse program has grown significantly. Now fielding teams in every available age group, the boys program is focused on developing excellent lacrosse players, exceptional young men, and excited parents and families in the stands.

The boys coaching staff and administration prides itself on teaching the game through a focus on fundamentals, fast-paced play, and a fierce commitment to the spirit of the game. Lacrosse is often referred to as the fastest game on two feet. With that in mind, the AYLC boys program teaches an exciting brand of high-speed lacrosse.

Boys U8 (1-2 Grade)

Spring 2023 U8 Boys

Open to boys in grades 1 and 2, U8 is the entry level program for youth boys. With emphasis on developing a strong lacrosse foundation, coaches focus on teaching fundamentals including scooping, passing, catching, shooting, and other aspects of gameplay.

Fall season is developmental focusing on skill-building and conditioning.

Spring season partners with GBYLA to play a full 10-game season with other Alabama lacrosse programs. No experience necessary.

Boys U10 (3-4 Grade)

Spring 2023 U10 Boys

Open to boys in the 3rd and 4th grades, fundamentals of lacrosse are taught with a focus on expanding a player's lacrosse IQ. Coaches take players through drills and game-play scenarios to help them understand strategy and grow their understanding of the game. Players experience the various positions on the field including face-off and goalie.

Fall season is developmental focusing on skill-building and conditioning.

In the Spring, we partner with GBYLA to play a full 10-game season with other Alabama lacrosse programs. No experience necessary. Players begin to get experience at various positions of lacrosse.

Boys U12 (5-6 Grade)

Spring 2023 U12 Boys

Open to boys in grades 5 and 6, this program exposes players to a competitive level of lacrosse and introduces boys to a full-field playing experience. Coaches build on the foundations with the goal to expand a player's lacrosse IQ and understanding of gameplay strategy. Players can expect to be challenged at practice sessions.

Conditioning is emphasized to ready players for a level of physical contact higher than younger age groups, and players may be encouraged to specialize in specific positions. Coaches encourage hard work on and off the field with the goal of building successful leaders and teammates.

Fall season is developmental focusing on skill-building and growth.

In the Spring, we partner with GBYLA to play a full 10-game season with other Alabama lacrosse programs. Boys should expect three practices a week in the Spring season. No experience necessary.

Boys U14 (7-8 Grade)

Spring 2023 U14 Boys

Open to boys in the 7th and 8th grades, this is the highest level of youth lacrosse before high school. Individual work outside of practice sessions is strongly encouraged. Players experience a competitive level of play at practice as well as on the playing field, and conditioning is imperative.

Players will be taught how to read and react to on-field situations to further refine their lacrosse IQ.

Fall season is developmental focusing on skill-building and refinement and emphasizes conditioning for full-field play.

In the Spring, we partner with GBYLA to play a full 10-game season with other Alabama lacrosse programs. While no experience is necessary, players wishing to play in the Spring are encouraged to play in the Fall.

Boys High School (9-12 Grade)

Spring 2023 High School Boys

Open to boys in 9th through 12th grades, the High School Boys program offers Varsity and JV teams. Head Coach Ben Hunt and Assistant Coach Gregory Forthofer have been part of our program since its inception. The team has made appearances at both regional and state semi-final games.

The High School team trains for a high-speed, competitive level of play. Players are expected to work individually outside of team sessions to meet the demands. Coaches emphasize there is no substitute for hard work and a good attitude, and work to instill a culture of self-discipline, self-control, and critical thought.
